The Idea

Challenge the world's designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs to help develop a revolutionary wheelchair design - one that can be manufactured inexpensively enough to allow disabled people worldwide to enjoy the freedom, educational and economic opportunities that come with mobility..

The Specifics

Whether we recondition a donated chair, or buy locally, the cost of a basic wheelchair is approximately $200 each. Donated chairs tend to be large and heavy and need reconditioning. Their large size and weight makes them tiring to use, and poorly maneuverable. A lack of spare parts makes imported chairs hard to maintain. The current price prevents us from helping many that could benefit from greater mobility…

Our goal is to design a wheelchair that meets the mobility needs of the disabled; can be manufactured and maintained locally; while creating jobs for the disabled and able-bodied alike. We aim for ~$100 price point allowing us to double or triple our distribution, while providing a success model that can be replicated worldwide.
